ELEMENTS OF VITICULTURE

The unique composition and history of LASSIOS wine

Read unique facts about our wines

Zakynthos had the good fortune to remain untouched by the consequences that the phylloxera had on the vineyards worldwide. It is one of the few places where this vine "wound" did not reach or survive. This great privilege of Zakynthos in viticulture resulted in the preservation on the one hand of the preservation of the wealth of the vine varieties that over the centuries were cultivated in its soils, on the other hand until today the majority of its vineyards are self-rooted.

The special climatic conditions during the year are of great interest and great importance for the formation of the character of the Zakynthian wine through the annual cycle of the vine. The latitude of Zakynthos ensures a summer period with little to no rain, but the fact that it is located west of the mountain range of Pindos and the mountains of the Peloponnese, implies a higher percentage of atmospheric moisture that helps the fruit to mature smoothly on the one hand to maintain the health of the stems.
